Hardball!

Happy Birthday to my man Chris Matthews (b. 1989), a Seahawks wideout since 2014.

Matthews broke into elite football the hard way: community college ball, then the University of Kentucky, cut by Cleveland as an undrafted free agent, one season of Arena League, then two with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers--a brilliant rookie season, followed by an injury-marred sophomore campaign that ended with him splitting time between a sales job at Foot Locker and a security guard gig.

Seattle invited him to training camp in 2014, but he didn't make the final cut. He spent most of the season on the practice squad, but broke out in the playoffs with a pivotal onside kick recovery in the NFC Championship Game and his first NFL career receptions--including a touchdown--in Super Bowl XLIX.

On the regular roster this season, he's played in three out of four games and has two catches so far.
