Discover 3 past & present Seahawks

Happy Birthday to my man Brock Coyle (b. 1990), Seattle's backup middle linebacker and a guided missile on special teams since 2014. Coyle went undrafted out of Montana and started two games (both victories) for Bobby Wagner as a rookie. He works hard and hits hard, but like most humans lacks Wagner's sick speed. However, Coyle looked faster in preseason this year.

Happy Birthday also to my man Sammy Green (b. 1954), an outside linebacker for Seattle from 1976-79. Seattle selected him in the second round of the 1976 draft. Green started for most of his tenure. In 1979, he helped seal a win over San Francisco with a 91-yard pick six, which remains the longest interception return in team history.

Savor Green's rookie photo. The don't make players strike these old school poses anymore.

Green played for Houston in 1980 and spent two seasons in the USFL. After football, he worked as a reporter and a DJ at a jazz station while finishing his BA. The ex-Seahawk has taught high school literature and composition for more than 16 years while earning two master degrees and working on a doctorate. He now teaches both high school and college in Cedar Rapids, Michigan.

Finally, Happy Birthday to my man Mansfield Wrotto (b. 1984), a Seahawk O-lineman from 2007-2010. Seattle drafted the Liberian-born brute in the 4th round out of Georgia Tech. He had played defensive and offensive tackle in college, but Seattle converted him to guard. Wrotto spent his rookie season on the practice squad. In his second year--Holmgren's dismal 2008 swan song--Seattle started 2-10, with Wrotto inactive or in reserve duty. He started the last four games, and the Seahawks went 2-2.

Wrotto returned to the bench for most of 2009 (Jim Mora the Younger's bleak 5-11 season). His sole start was a glorious 41-0 blowout of Jacksonville.

Pete Carroll & John Schneider waived Wrotto a few games into the 2010 season. He finished the year in Buffalo--starting seven games--and then made a brief appearance in Chicago in 2011 to conclude his career. He earned his MBA at the University of Illinois--Urbana and currently works for Bank of America in Charlotte.
